In The Beginning
Ashley was a sweetheart.
Every time she was in the room, there was so much love and happiness emanating from her that you couldn’t help but feel it—you couldn’t help but be happy in her presence. She made everyone around her feel special. Her kindness was unmatched, and she left an incredible mark on everyone who knew her.
"I heard the most incredible stories about Ashley from her family and friends. When I met them in person at Ashley’s funeral, there wasn’t a single person who wasn’t crying."
— Cassidy Kitchens, Producer
Ashley loved balloons—absolutely loved them.
She was always smiling and had the most contagious laugh you could ever hear. She loved having books read to her, always staying engaged, even after her diagnosis of Rett Syndrome.

Ashley was misdiagnosed until she was eight years old. When the correct diagnosis of Rett Syndrome finally came, her family faced an unimaginable heartbreak. Rett Syndrome is a progressive neurological disease where a person increasingly loses control of basic motor functions and speech. They knew what was coming, and they prepared as best they could.
Ashley’s life was already going to be difficult. But she should have had more time. She should have had the chance to fight longer, if not for the unspeakable actions of her stepfather.
Ashley’s spirit will live on.
Through us.
Through her legacy.
Through Ashley’s Law.
